(“Aiious ” Si’Kci.vr,.”) ' London, Oct. 11. The land agitation in Ireland and outoutrages arising from it continue. Oct. 12. The Duke of Connaught has met with an accident by falling from his horse, lie was only slightly injured. Sir Hurtle Frere, who recently arrived in London, has had an audience with the Queen. A Mahointncdan revolt has taken place at Kashgar, in Chinese Tartary, against the Chinese. Oct. 13. There is a decided revival in general commerce. It is known that there arc five Peers marked for shooting in Ireland. John Luskin, art critic, in a wild lettei in connection with the Lord Rectorship of the Glasgow University, at present held by Gladstone, declares that he hates Liberalism as he hates Beelzebub. It is asserted that Russia had advised Prince Nikika, of Montenegro, to refuse
to accept the cession of Dnlcigno unless upon terms which would he likely to produce hostilities against Turkey. Germany urged the Porte to yield to the demands made upon it a course which while being more against Russia would at the same time afford a “ golden bridge” for the Gladstone Government to recede from the dangerous position they have taken up. In any event European concert has become stranded, and further coercion of the Porte is impossible.
Greece, Bulgaria, and Roumca continue to increase and strengthen their armaments. Pending the surrender of Dulcigno to Montenegro the combined llect remains in the Gulf of Cattaro. The Powers have discussed the question of the deposition of the Sultan of Turkey, and the exclusion of the present dynasty from the throne. The King of Greece has returned to Athens from his visit to the European capitals. Parnell intends to re-visit America with the view of raising afresh the agitation in Ireland, The Land League are advancing funds for the defence of the alleged murderers of Lord Mountmorris.
It is feared that the difficulty in Basutoland will not be settled without the assistance of the Home Government, but this was refused in antici* pation by Hicks-Beach, late Secretary' for the Colonies, and also by the Earl of Kimberley, the present Secretary for the Colonies, except on condition of the Home Government having the control of Native affairs.
There arc signs of a reaction in Ireland against the Land League, An indictment, framed against some prominent. members of the League, for violent and seditious language, has been approved of. Four persons suspected of the murder of Lord Mountmorris, have been discharged.
