TEMUKA.

[I'HOM OUR OWN CORKKSI’ON DKNT.] There is a creek between Temuka and Sod Town which ought certainly to be bridged otherwise the local authorities may be held responsible for a fatal accident some of these days. During the late rains an aged couple residing in Sod Town wore returning late at night from this township, when the old man of the party fell into the creek. It was pitch dark and his loving companion, who was loaded with her marketings heard the splash but could not see her partner. In reply to her energetic “ Where have you gone, John ?” a despairing groan was returned followed by “ Sure, I’m drownded intirely.’’ “Ah,” replied the old dame, “you’d better get up, its humbugging you are, if ye was drownded how conld you spake?” While they were expostulating the old woman also toppled over the bank, and when the couple regained the dry side of Sod Town, they and their groceries wore in a sad I}' damaged condition. Of course they intend for the future to make their markets by daylight. The Resident Magistrate, Mr F. Guinness, intimated on Wednesday that Mr Nugent Wood had been appointed his successor, and that he had received notice of his appointment for Collingwood. It has been stated here that Mr Guinness contemplated sending in his resignation. 1 understand that on account of the Timaru A. and I’. Siiow, there will be no li.M, Court here on Wednesday next.

Mr 1«. Pattison, late of Christchurch, has, I believe, determined to occupy the legal held in Temuka and the surrounding district, which Mr Johnston is about to quit.
