South Canterbury Times, SATURDAY, OCTOBER 23, 1880. NEWS OF THE DAY.

The “ Lancashire Lass,” one of H. 'J. Byron’s favourite pieces, will be produced at the Theatre Royal this evening by the Comedy and Burlesque Company. The ship Orari which left Lyttelton on June 2G, has arrived in London.

A new Masonic Hall at Palmerston North was dedicated yesterday. Edward Fearon, of Wellington, whose mind broke down under his preparatory studies for the law has been discharged from the asylum.

An application to strike a solicitor named C. Madden off the rolls, for misappropriation of a client’s money has been made and adjourned.

A special Exhibition supplement accompanics this evening’s issue. It contains a well executed engraving taken from a photograph of the Victorian Exhibition buildings, besides a plan of the structure, showing the space awarded to the different courts and their relative positions. The likeness of the Hon. W. J. Clarke, M.L.C., and president of the Exhibition, is true to life, and will, doubtless, be valued by the numerous admirers of this foremost of colonists. The descriptive letter press, of which there are 27 closely printed columns, forms one of the most complete and interesting records of the great International Exhibition that has yet appeared.

There was a clean sheet at the B.M. Court this morning. Mr Bateman will lecture on Co-operation at Waimate this evening.
