[Pee "Times” Special Wide.] < Fata! Accident. Wellington, Qct. 23. A fatal accident occurred at Madestone yesterday. A lad named George Heighten was riding into town, when he was thrown from his horse, his foot caught in the stirrup, and he was dragged for a considerable distance, receiving fearful injuries to his head. He was taken to the hospital, where he expired. An inquest will beheld. Amalgamation of Coal Companies. A amalgamation of the Wellington Coal Company with the Kuranui Coal Company, having been completed, Messrs Pharazyn and George have been elected vice Messrs Mills and Anderson, resigned. Work will be resumed immediately. Another Raid on Publicans. An information has been laid against Walkley, proprietor, of the Cricketers’
Arms Hotel for breach of the Licensing Act by keeping his house open after hours. Stable and two Horses Burnt. Dunedin, Oct. 23. By a fire which destroyed a stable and two horses in Leith street last night, the Hew Zealand National offices lose £lls between them. A Xamcntable Sentence. At the District Court, Lawrence, Ah Kong, charged with indecent assault on a child, was convicted of common assault, and sentenced to seven days. Infantile Adventures. Invercargill, Oct. 23. A little girl, two years old, daughter of Ternperton, a settler at Dipton Flat, disappeared from her mother’s side. A few minutes afterwards] she was found drowned in a creek near the house. Yesterday morning a resident of the suburbs found an infant two or three weeks old lying outside his door wrapped in a blanket with a feeding bottle. It is believed that the mother is a stranger.
