The Auckland Stud Co., have sold the pure Clydesdale entire Prince Arthur to an Opotiki settler. Harbor Affairs. The Harbor Board received a numerously signed petition in favor of the establishment of a fish market, which has been referred to the Works • Committee. The question of constructing a dock of sufficient accommodation for the largest vessels, was discussed by the Harbor Board and referred to the Works’ Committee. Church Government. The Dioceson Synod have agreed to place all Sunday schools and the appointmeutment of teachers, under the control of Ministers of Parishes; also to refer disagreements between clergymen and vestries to the standing Committee. A motion that all lay officebearers should bo communicants was rejected. Ecclesiastical. Christchurch, Oct. 20. The Diocesan Synod was opened yesterday with an address from the Primate. Doing the Hospital. Dr Skae commences an official enquiry into the Hospital affairs on Friday morning. Dismissed through a Quibble. Dunedin, Oct. 20, A number of informations against Chinese for fan-tan playing at Lawrence were dismissed because the police could not prove that the Town and Country Orninancc is in operation. The “ Star” lecturer. Proctor, in concluding his series of lectures, announced his intention of returning to Dunedin and delivering two more lectures on the comets. Sold Again. A three-roomed cottage in South Dunedin, which belonged to Thomas Healey, was burned down last night. It was insured for £2OO, office not known.
