[Pee “ Times” Special Wise.] A Prolific Mayor. Auckland, Oct. 12. The borough of Parnell has presented its Mayor with a silver cradle in honor of an addition to his family. The Police Reductions. Certain justices of the peace deputationed Mr Whitaker, asking that the sub-inspector of police should be restored to his former position of sergeantmajor. Mr Whitaker promised to refer the matter to Wellington. Infant Hunting. A sergeant in plain clothes shortly commences enforcing the compulsory clauses of the Education Act. Sir Arthur’s Escort. Captain Purvis, of H.M.S. Danae, has received a telegram from Commodore Wilson, instructing him to leave Auckland on the 18th inst for Fiji. It is probable the Danae will bring the new Governor. Gold Discovery. The recent gold discoveries are in a block of 7000 acres allotted as a native reserve. The Government has taken no steps to verity the discovery. Boy Drowned. The yacht Peace capsized off Kauri Point and a hoy named Day was drowned. The Right Sort of Holiday. W ELLINGTON, Oct. 12. Mr Mansford, R.M., has received 12 months leave of absence and visits England. It is understood that he will draw full pay. A Sly Visit to ‘ Undo Sam.’ Christchurch, Oct. 12. Last night the promises of Samuel Stewart, pawnbroker, were burglariously entered and five gold watches and one gold brooch, stolen. Three men were arrested, and it is expected that another will be arrested this afternoon. Something like a Benefit Dunedin, October 12. A Concert in aid of St. Patrick’s Catherdral fund last night realised £2OO. An Education Growl. The Education Board resolved to enter a strong protest a gainst the allocation to Otago, of £O.OOO out of the £50,000 vote for school buildings. Destruction of Stud Stock. Invercargill, Oct. 11. A tiro at Wyndhaiu destroyed a stable and a number of outhouses. By a lire at J. B. Sutton’s farm, Garryowon, a large stable, together with a prize bull and the stallion “ Pablo Fanque,” were destroyed.
