Mr Stratford arrived in Ashburton last Wednesday under instructions to enter upon his duties as Resident Magistrate forthatdistrict-.it once. On Thursday he received a telegram from the Government intimating that he would be appointed Resident Magistrate at Greymouth, and instructing him to proceed to Wellington at once. Yesterday he left Ashburton in obedience to these instructions, and Mr Guinness still continues to perform the functions of Resident Magistrate in that district, — “ Press.”
