TIMAKU— THIS DAY. (Before E. Beethnm, Esq., 11. M., and E. G. Sterrickor, Esq., J P.) FAI.SE I’KETENCES. George Harris was charged with obtaining money and goods from Mr -John Wildermott, of the Cave, by means of false pretences. The accused was undefended ; Inspector Pender prosecuted. ■lolm Wildermott stated that on April 10 last the accused called at his place at the Cave and said he was going into Timaru and wanted some clothes, etc. He selected a pair of water-tight boots, a pair of moleskin trousers, a billycock hat, and other articles. The bill came to ,£j. 7s Gd, and the accused got ,£1 Pis in cash from witness as well, giving in exchange an order on Mr Fred. Abrahams, farmer, of the Brothers station, near Albury, and stating that he had been working for Mr Abrahams and

had money standing to Ids credit with him. Witness subsequently ascertained that the accused had no money to draw from Mr Abrahams, and that consequently the order was valueless. if. Abrahams, farmer, stated that he knew the accused who had been at one time employed by him. He had been fully paid up for the work ho had done, and had no money to take when he gave the order produced. The Bench told the accused that it lie liked to plead guilty to the chargejiis case would be dealt with summarily ; otherwise he would be committed tor trial at the (Supreme Court. The accused thereupon pleaded guilty, and was sentenced in consideration of its being a first oft’encc to six months’ imprisonment with hard labor. The Court then adjourned.
