THE CONVENT SCHOOL.
CONSECRATION CE REMONY. The ceremony of consecrating the Convent School of the Order of the Sacred Heart was performed yesterday by the Right Rev. Ur Moran, of Dunedin, assisted by the Rev Father O’Sullivan, principal of the Henodictino monks established in Auckland, the Rev Father Yardin, administrator of this diocese in the .absence of Bishop Redwood, who is now in Europe, and the Rev Fathers Chataigncr and Ooutenoire. The spectacle was witnessed by a largo assemblage including many country residents. Mass was celebrated in the church by the Rev Father O’Sullivan before a crowded congregation. Bishop Moran preached an appropriate sermon on the power of faith, and referred to (he Convent as an illustration of what faith can achieve. During the service a collection was made in aid of the Convent fund. The school children and members of the church,bevringbanners and appropriately dressed, were marched in procession to the Convent, singing tiro processional hymn. Arrived at (lie building they lined the porch, and the ceremony of sprinkling the walls and floors with holy water was proceeded with. At its conclusion the Bishop road an address, setting forth in laudatory and eloquent terms, (ho object for which the Convent School has been erected viz :—The promotion of primary, secondary and liigher education, under the guidance, and with the blessing of the church. After the address was delivered (ho children were again formed into procession, and marched hack to the church where they were dismissed. The Convent School, which will supersede the present Cuds’ School will he supervised by eight ladies, six of whom are teachers, and will he conducted on the principle of a Girls’ High School, the present School building being used for primary education.
