The weather was dull, with a drizzling rain at times, the course was soft and slippery, the attendance was not veiy numerous, and even the most enthusiastic of the local sportsmen looked blue and uncomfortable. The course was in Paterson’s paddock, about a mile and a half from the township. At the most not more three hundred spectators patronised the grounds. There was a totalizator, hut hardly any betting.
