THEATRE ROYAL

SECOND EDITION

“Tim Sprissaun,” a capital specimen of the romantic Irish drama was produced last evening to an appreciative audience. The piece was well dressed, and appropriate scenery and music heightened the effect. Mr Reynolds was at homo in his role and his rendition of the “Dear Little Shamrock” was simply charming. Miss Arcthusa May gave “ The last Bose of Summer,” and “ The Harp that once- ” with exquisite feeling;, amt Mrs Walter Hill’s delineation of the Irish maiden held the audience enthralled. Without doubt one of the best Irishmen of the evening was Mr J. J. Kennedy, for his impersonation was one that could scarcely admit of improvement. This evening the couipan}', who have to appear in Dunedin on Saturday evening, will make their linal bow R a Timaru audience in an adaptation by Air Walter Beynolds of Harrison Ainsworth’s “Jack Shepherd.” We understand that Mr Beynold’s has dovoted a considerable amount of pains to this work, and the language of the talented novelist and historian has been preserved in such a way as to materially embellish the drama. The spectacular effect has also been carefully studied, and as the company desire by a most ambitious effort to leave a pleasing impression behind them, we hope to see them rewarded with a crowded house.
