TEMUKA.

- [FEOM OUR OWN CORRESL’OXDEXT.] Capt. Barry lectured at the Oddfellows’ Hall again on Saturday evening, to a rather thin audience, which persisted in cracking jokes at the expense of the captain, much to his disgust. The story of the worthy skipper beginning his lecturing expedition on the whale’s back, would not go down. In reply to one of the audience he stated that he would bo willing to acclimatise the whale if necessary, and put it in the Tcmuka river. (Cries of “When”) Capt. Barry —When I lecture again in Timaru. I have appeared here to-night at a considerable sacrifice to myself as 1 am billed to appear at Timaru, and have just received a telegram from the “ Parson ” slating that the doors of the hall were beseiged with people eager to hear my lecture. (Cries of “ Oh, oh !) The Tcmuka Volunteers under the the command of Captain Young together with the Tcmuka Fife ami Drum Baud under Bandmaster Gapes, held a church parade yesterday. The Company' marched to the English Church accompanied by about 300 citizens, who appeared to be quite charmed by the martial music of their local Band. The Rev. Bishop Harper, of Christchurch, preached an appropriate sermon on the occasion. After the service the Company marched back) to the drill shed where they wore dismissed.
