Luna led nearly all the way round the course. Half a mile from home Tmva looked awkward and Virginia Water more so. Clearing the post a terribly dose race ensued between Virginia Water and Luna, and it seemed as if Luna must win, when Virgnia Water forged ahead, and won by about a quarter of a length. The horses, got well away at the fall of tiro flag. Clarence at first had a slight advantage, but Playboy soon shot ahead. Rounding the top corner of the course Luna and Virginia Water got to the front,Marie Antoinette coming up. The first two raced neck and neck for a long way. Rounding the bottom of the course, Clarence was in front, hard pressed by Virginia. Half a mile from homo Marie went up, Clarence dropped back, and the race lay between Virginia Water and Marie. Bets were freely offered, amidst great excitement, and Marie’s backers were confident she would score a win, when Virginia put on a spurt and won by half a length. Time—4min. IGsecs. There was £4l) on the totalisator. Betting—3 to lon Luna, and 2to 1 Clarence. Hack Hurdle Race, 10 sovs. For all untrained Hacks that have never won over 10 sovs. of public money. miles, 1 over six flights of hurdles; weights not less than lOst. Post entry, 1 sov. Gentle Annie .. .. .. .. 1 Gentle Annie Avon as she liked. A protest was entered. Ladies’ Purse, 25 sovs. For all horses. Welter weights for age. Gentlemen riders. I V miles. Mr G. H. Thompson’s g g Lonehand, aged, 12st 41b .. .. .. 1 Levant also ran. Lonehand won a close race.
