[Per “Times” Special Wire.] Native Disturbances in the North Island. Auckland, Sept. 22. The King natives at Waikato arc interrupting Major Jackson’s Hororata purchase. Fifty Hauliaus have assembled and they threaten to carry horses and ploughs to the King country. The natives in the North are obstructing the West Coast road, and have threatened to pull down all the bridges but one, over the Hotea river, which they say will be useful to themselves. They have been instigated by an emissary of Te Kooti. The Kaipara natives do not support them.
Harbor Wo-* is. A report of the Harbor 15 >ard proposes to erect, a Graving Deck at, Gallope Point,at a cost of .1:30,000. A tender for £3,51)9 has been accepted for the construction of a new T main wharf. The Harbor Board demands Horn the agent of the ’Frisco steamers, compensation for the collision and damage done by the mail steamer. The Unemployed. Only seven men out of the alleged 140 who care seeking employment applied to the City Council for stone-breaking. Doan Agency. Private advices report that Sir E. W. Stafford has formed a London directory for the Loan and Mercantile Agency. Drainage. Drainage operations arc in full swing ,at Waikato. Death from Drowning 1 . Wellington, Sept. 22. At the inquest on the body found in the harbor yesterday, an open verdict was returned. No evidence as to (he identification of the body was adduced, but the general opinion is that lie was a shepherd. JVSelancholy Suicide. Dunedin, Sept. 22. Hubert Mullins, a horseshocr, who appeared at the Police Court, to-day, charged with neglecting- to support his children, committed suicide on the reclaimed wall, near Rattray street wharf, between 12 and 1 p.in., by taking strychnine. STaudnlcnt Bankruptcy. In his address to the Grand Jury at Lawrence, yesterday, Mr Justice Williams expressed regret that such a large number of grand and petty jurors had been summoned to try a case which could have been disposed of in (ho District Court hut for a technicality involved. The case was that of Arthur O’Neill for fraudulent bankruptcy. The prisoner was found guilty on all flic counts, but the Judge deferred sentence, as it is doubtful whether evidence taken before a trustee in bankruptcy is almissable. The prisoner was liberated on bail. Sudden Death. Christchurch, Sept, 22. A man named James Newton, died suddenly this morning. The supposed cause is heart disease. Wo Rlore Relief Works. The Public Works Department sent 55 more of the uncraploy'ed to the upcountry railway works to-day, and have announced positively that no more unemployed will be provided for. Lyttelton Sept. 22. Sailed.—Abcrwyte, barque, for London. ■ A Dive Rftoa Discovered. Ix VEIiCARGTLL, Sept. 32. It Is reported that a nma has been seen at Wain by a party of diggers. The bird stood nine feet high and ran away with a scrccch like an American locomotive, breaking down the scrub. RScCauglian Censured. The Forest Hill Chamber of Agriculture passed the following amendment on a vote of thanks to Mr McCauglian for his exertions re the Forest Hill tramway ; —“ That the Hall Government and P. X. McCauglian deserve the disapproval of this chamber and all right-thinking people for the way in ■which they arc tampering with settlers by offering a sprat such as the Forest Hill tramways affair to catch the £40,000 "Waimea mackerel.”
