S. C. Timer Office. Monday Evening. Messrs Jonas, Hart and Wlldie report for the fortnight;— Fat Cattle—The market is well supplied with prime quality. Our transactions have been 2 head at £7 10s ; 8 do, at £7 Us ; 16 do, at £9 los ; 3 do, at £8 ss, which would give an average of 25s per lOOlbs. Store Cattle—There is a considerable reduction in the price of store cattle. We have sold milch cows in milk and near calving, from £8 5s to £lO 10s ; fat cow's, £6 Us to £7 10s; heifers, 3-year-old, in calf, from E 5 to £5 5s ; calves just weaned, 17s. Skins, Hides, Ac—On the Kith inst., w 7 e held a sale of skins, Ac., which was fairly attended by the trade, and the following prices were obtained :—Heavy skins (crossbred), 4s (3d, -Is 7d, 4s 9d, Is ild, 5s and 5s 4d ; light to medium do, 2s 2d, 2s Bd, 3s, 3s 9d, 3s lid, and Is id ; hides, 3d per lb. Farm produce—Our sales have been w T ell attended, large quantities of produce have been sold, full market rates being realised, as per quotations :—Flour, £9 10s ; sharps, 6s 6d per bag; bran, £3 10s per ton; chicken corn, from 5s 6d to 7s 6d per bag ; potatoes, £3 per ton ; butter, 7.4 d per lb ; cheese, 44d to 64d per lb ; tea in boxes, 18s ; Picton bloaters, 13s per case ; fowls, 3s 6d to 4s per pair; turkeys, 5s each ; a large quantity of saddlery and other merchandise realised good wholesale prices.
Messrs William Collins and Co. report holding their regular market and sale by auction on Saturday of farm and dairy produce, general merchandise, Ac. The attendance was rather numerous and buyers wove found for every line submitted to the hammer, which, taken all round, must bo highly satisfactory to the vendors. The figures obtained were: —Derwent potatoes (musket glutted), 35s to 40s per ton; onions, 7s per cwt ; farmers’ flour, £8; millers’, £10; bran, 50s; sharps, 60s ; feed oats, Is to Is 2d per bushel; fowl wheat, 3s 6d to 5s per sack ; fresh butter, 74cl to 8d per lb ; salted, in kegs, no demand ; hams and bacon were in good supply and being of first-rate quality, the rooms were cleared at the following figures —64d to 74 per lb ; fowls, ducks, geese, and turkeys, no alteration on previous week's report ; singing canaries, 26s each ; pigeons, 6s per dozen. They dispos'd of during the day a consignment of groceries and oilmen’s stores at the following;—Fcrosene, 2? 4d per gallon, Light of the Age, 150 test sperm candles, 84d per lb ; sultanas, 7d per lb ; currants, 6d per Hi ; Coleman’s D.S.F. lib tin mustard 14s per dozen ; lice, 26s per cwt ; sago, 30s ppr cwt ; jams, 7s per dozen ; vestas, 18s per gross ; coffee, Is per lb ; coarse salt, 5s 6d per cwt; fine do, 5s ; yeast powders, Williams’ 7s per d v.en ; boiled lollies, 7d per lb ; sugar, yellow, 40s per cwt ; soap, 7s 0d per cwt ; tea in boxes, 16s each ; castor and salad oils, essence of lemon, blacking, boots, drapery, and sundries moved off during the day.
