THE SHINGLE NUISANCE.
[TO THE EDITOR]
Sir, —Allow me a small space re this shingle question. I should suggest that the Mayor convene a meeting of ratepayers to demand the removal of this shingle off the footpaths ; failing this, for every ratepayer to deduct his boot bill for the last three months off the rates now due. I would ask what do we pay rates for but to be expended on the improvements of the town? Does this rubbish improve it? I for one hope the new Councillors will study the necessities and comfort of the public a little more than some of the old ones, or must we dub them a body of shufflers and shinglers? I am, &c., & A RATEPAYER.
