AN EXCITING SCENE.
At Echuca, on August 29, a deliberately made attempt to commit the crime of murder on two persons, with a sequel of suicide, occurred. The affair arose out of jealousy, the principal actors being George Coocy Foo, cook on the Lady of the Lake, William All Soon, a cook on the Cadet, and Sarah Newell, a depraved woman living at Echuca East Chinese camp. Gooey Foo was enraged at the woman keeping company with Ah Soon, and fired two shots at her —one as she lay in bed, and a second one as she ran away. Both missed. Ah Soon then came up, and two shots were fired at him. In the last the ball entered the check, striking the bone and glancing out through the neck. He is expected to recover. Coocy Foo then swallowed opium, but au emetic caused him to vomit the poison. Suicide was evidently premeditated, and was admitted by accused, who purchased the re volver especially, and left a letter for another Celestial, saying he would be dead when that was read. Cooey Foo is well known as a dangerous ruffian, and has been in gaol previously.
