POOR FRITZ.
The following account of the confinement of J. K. Emmet (Fritz) in an asylum, is given by an American journal : —“During the last tour Joe Emmet has more than once fallen bach into his old habits, but has so often straightened up, and it was hoped that he would be able to finish his season and settle down in Albany, N.Y., where he has just purchased a homo. Unfortunately, his arrival in Now York was the signal for the commencement of a debauch, which at last assumed such an alarming aspect that Mrs Emmet was compelled to apply for a warrant for her husband's arrest, in order that he might be put in some place where he could not injure cither himself or others. When arested poor Joe was in such a dreadful condition that he had to be dosed with bromide of potassium. The proceedings in Court were quietly conducted, Emmet begging with much apprehension and nervousness that he might not be sent to the Tombs. He was told that it would be for his own good to be placed in confinement, and on the 17 of Juno, Joe Emmet, clever rich, but the victim to drink, was sent to the inebriate asylum at Flalbusb, New York. 11 is newhomo in Albany mcauwhile stands untenanted, a striking example of the sad effects of an inveterate love fer liquor.”
