Seiaura of Smuggled Goods. Auckland, Sept. IG. Sub-Inspector Partly has made another seizure of smuggled goods. A man named Jacob Scuft landed at Lyttelton with £ooo worth of jewellery from Sydney. He evaded the Customs there, and sold a portion at Christchurch, Wellington, West Coast aud Kelson, and was selling the balance at Auckland,when the police made a seizure. The goods smuggled were valued at £l5O wholesale. A penalty of £IOO, with forfeiture, and costs was imposed.

During the passage from the latter port, Mr Morris, a passenger, who booked at Auckland, died from the effects of sea-sickness. Braug-hts. Christchurch, Sept. 16. A Fire at Caversham at midnight totally destroyed a ten-roomed brick building occupied by Heaves, chemist, Mclntosh, a dealer, and two other families. The fire started in Heaves’ shop, from which nothing was saved. A good deal was saved from Mclntosh’s. Heaves is insured for £260 in the Hational, and Mclntosh in the South British for £SO.
