GERALDINE ROAD BOARD.

The usual monthly meeting of the Board was held yesterday. Present—Mr W. Bostlcthwaite (chairman) Messrs W. Deßonzic and J. Godscll. The following tenders were opened : Contract No. 4(5, near Tripp’s—William Bennett and Daniel Oregon, £95 ; Frank Mollcy, £92 17s Gd ; Timothy Herlihy,£B7; Dennis McCarthy, £G6 17s (accepted) ; George Hammond, £79. No. 47 —Concrete Culvert, Waitohi Flat —Thomas Covkery, £3O ; John Cunningham, £29 ; Webb and Harris, £2B 10s ; W. F. Fletcher, £25 (accepted.) No. 48. Guthrie road. Timothy Herlihy, £35; George Hammond, £3O; Denis McCarthy, £29 ; D. Oregon and W. Bennett, £2O ; Webb and Harris, £25 ; Timothy Colfey, £2l 11s 3d (accepted). No. -J9. Footbridge at Findlay's. The following correspondence was read: — From the Ashburton County Council requesting payment of the sum of .£l2 Gs Sd, balance of the Board’s grant for the l!angitata lower ferry. Ordered to be paid. From Mr Win. llycc, requesting permission to erect a horse post. Granted. From Mr J. W. Jones, dated September 3, with reference to the road leading into Duncan’s hush; also asking the Board to improve the Opihi end of Jones’ road. Resolved—“ That the Overseer see the line of road, and if possible to get surfacemen to do it.” From Messrs Matthews and Trczcsc, asking the Board to repair fences damaged by the embankment on the road. Resolved —“ That the Board do not see the necessity of doing the work asked for.” From the Tcmuka lload Board agreeing to pay one half of the cost of a footbridge over the Isakahu river. From the Secretary to the Treasury stating that the sum of £lßl 10s Id has been paid to the Boards account, being the share of (ho sum of £B5l 2s 10d at the credit of the separate account of the County of Geraldine for surplus land revenue. From the Bank of New Zealand re matured deposit. Proposed by Mr Flatraan, seconded by Mr DcPcnzy and carried—“ That -the sum of £7(17 11s Id he drawn from the bank of New Zealand and deposited with the bank of New South Wales Geraldine, in the following sums, £5.000 for three months, £I,OOO in two, £SOO for six months, £I,OOO in two, £SOO for three months and the balance of £O7l 11s Id be placed to current accounts. The overseer’s report was read and the following resolutions passed: —(1) lie Wiglcy’a application—That it be suggested to Mr Wigley that the road be diverted to south of present surveyed road to avoid the creek. (2) To gravel road between Beautiful Valley road and Burke’s Pass road as suggested Gy Mr Godscll. (3) Payne’s road to be done. (1.) Work done on road leading to Mr Hanna’s sections approved. (5) Macdonald street to bo done as per overseer’s report. (G) Thatcher’s load to be formed. (7.) Road near Mr Donkin’s to be done. (8.) Work included in Mr Dawson’s application to be carried out. (9) Tenders for stripping gravel reserve on Waihi Bush road to be invited. (10) The Board apjrrovc the reserves being fenced. (11) Work at office and overseer’s residence to be done, an iron tank in case of tire and range in kitchen to prevent it smoking. Resolved—” That the Clerk inform the Government to forward all money falling due to the Board to the Bank of New South Wales in future.” Rcsolvck —“ That Mr March be written to asking him to hand over the cottages on Reserve 1193 to the Geraldine Road Board, and if so the Board will pay the insurance.” From Messrs Guilford, Howard and others requesting the Board to form and shingle the road loading to the back of Healey’s Township. Resolved —“ That the Board is prepared to do the necessary work as soon as the land is conveyed to the Queen for a public road.” From Mr William Upton Slack requesting the Board to fediinglc Slack’s Valley. Resolved-“ That the overseer sec Mr Slack re shingling road, and ascertain if he will allow the Board to take gravel from his land.” Mr George Crozier asked the Board to compensate him for his loss in carrying out his contract, being prevented by the water being dammed upon the road. Resolved —“ That the Board pay Mr Crozier the sum of £7 10s and cancel the contract, there being a possibility of a better road being laid off.” The Inspector of Nuisance’s report was read and considered. Resolved —“ That the Inspector’s attention he drawn to the Reserve GOG.” Accounts to the amount of £O9l 8s lOd were passed for payment. The Board then adjourned.
