ROBBERY WITH VIOLENCE.

At the lI.M. Court this inoniing, John Leiahman was brought up on remand from Dunedin, charged with assaulting and robbing one AVilliam McEerren, at Christchurch, on June 2d, last.

On the day in question, the prosecutor was walking along the Christchurch south town bolt when he was violently assaulted and robbed of a .silver watch, valued at T 4, and some money. On July ID the accused offered the stolen watch for sale to a Timaru jeweller. The watch was a good deal injured, having evidently been placed in water with a view to destroy or render diflicult

its idontilication. The matter coming to the ears of the ever vigilant Detective Kirby that officer lost no time in recovering the property, and in causing a warrant to be issued for the apprehension o£ the vender. Lcishman was traced as far as Dunedin by Detective Kirby, and here the scent grew cold for a short time. The accused was, however, very soon afterwards arrested at a bake-house in Green Island. He was brought up before the Dunedin P.M., and remanded to Timarn, and was this morning remanded by -Mr Heetham to Christchurch.
