Information was yesterday received by the police that Mr J. J. Daily of the Masonic Hotel, at St. Andrew’s, had been seriously assaulted, and Detective Kirby lost no time in leaving for St. Andrew’s. He found things were not exactly as they had been represented. It appears that Mr Daily had occasion during the afternoon to turn a rowdy customer out neck and crop, and in doing so both men fell heavily, Mr Daily breaking three of his ribs. Several adjourned cases for alleged breaches of the Borough Bye-laws set down for hearing to-day, were further adjourned until to-morrow, in consequence of the sitting of the District Court. It is only the female mosquito that bites, but when a man gets a chance to belt one with a towel, he’s going to do it without slopping to inquire as to its gender.
