The lmg,y part of the grain season may he said to be over, farmers haring generally disposed of their stocks. For the few parcels offering first-class prices arc demanded, and transactions with Merchants and millers are consequently limited. Farley continues to he a drug in the market and oats are in anything but active enquiry. Prices of all-kinds of grain are stationary. Our quotations arc as follows;—Wheat best milling, 3s lOd to is; medium 3s 3d to 3s ltd; fowls do 2s to 2s Gd. Barley malting, 2s 5d to 3s 2d ; feed Is 5d to 2s 2d ; seed oats, Is to Is Gd ; milling do Is to Is Gd. Flour, £9 10s to £lO. Oatmeal, £8 10s to £'.). Potatoes, 30s to 35s per ton. Live stock.—At Winchester fair on Wednesday 1500 sheep, 120 head cattle, 30 pigs, and 1 horses were yarded. The bidding was somewhat dull. Messrs Maclean and Stewart sold—B 18 month steers at £3 15s ; !) do, £3 7s Gd ; cows at from £G 15s to £7 2s Gd ; yearlings at from £2 10s to £2 17s Gd ; pigs at from 10s to £2 2s Gd. Messrs Jonas, Hart and Wildic sold —6 steers at from £7 10s to £8 ss. Several of the lots offered not fetching owners’ reserves, were withdrawn. TIMARU SHARE MARKET. Mr W. Zicslcr reports the following sales —Colonial Bank, £2 5s ; National Bank, £3 Is ; Colonial Insurance, 8s 3d ; National £1 8s ; Standard, 9s; Union, 18s ; National Mortgage, £1 Gs ; Timavu Gas Company, buyers (old issue). £G 5s ; (new issue) £1 16s, cum. div. A little demand has been experienced for some lines, and transactions both in first and second hands have been more frequent. Prices, however, have not been appreciably affected, and quotations remain about the B une. Dunedin, Sept. 3. T Good sam les milling wheat, 4s 4d to 4s 7d ; fowls’ wheat, 2s Gd to 3s; medium wheat, 3s Gd to 4s; seed oats, Is to 1". Gd ; milling, Is 2d to Is 8d ; malting barley, 2s 9d to 3s Gd ; feed, Is 9d to 2s Gd; potatoes, £2 ss; grass hay, £3 10s ; oaten hay, £3 ; straw, £2 ; bran, £2 10s ; pollard, £4 10s ; flour, £lO 10s to £11; oatmeal, £9 10s; pearl barley, £18; onions, 7s Gd to 8s ; cheese, sd; bacon, rolled, yd; hams, 10,(-d; sides bacon, Bpi (grain fed); chaff, £2 15s. Fat cattle are in moderate supply, with a fair demand. Prime beef, 2Gs per lOOlbs; medium, 22s Gd. Fat sheep are in full snpplv ; bidding is languid, and values have declined Is to Is Gd per head. Prime mutton, 2pi per lb. Fat lambs range from 9s to 13s each. Auckland, Sept. 3. The past week has been uneventful. Tradesmen still experience difficulty in collecting cash, although money is plentiful for investing. The banks are extremely cautious in making advances. Lower rates of interest ruling have induced persons desirous of investing on sound security or depositing their money at good interest to look elsewhere than banks for means of attaining that end. Potatoes are somewhat overstocked owing to heavy arrivals. Sales are as low as £3 at the wharf, and the highest prices are £8 10s to £3 15s for Canterbury, and £4 5s to £4 10s per ton for Oamaru potatoes. Maize is Arm, and a rise in price is not improbable, Fijian and Sydney are practically out of the market, and local maize is about 3s Gd, with an upward tendency. Oats are likewise firm, and well lield. Rates are somewhat better than last quotations, and 2s 2d to 2s 4d is obtainable for good samples, anything below these prices not being of first quality. Sardines have risen 8d per dozen. Wellington, Sept. 3. Chick wheat, 2s to 2s 2d ; maize, 3s to 3s 4d ; flour, £l2 ; bran, 74d to 8d ; salt butter, bacon, ham, eggs, quite unsaleable ; potatoes, £2 12s Gd to £2 15s ; onions, overstocked and no demand ; cheese, od to Gd ; apples, 11 s to 12s ; oranges, 9s ; fowls, 3s Gd. Sydney, Sept. 3. Hennessy’s brandy, in hulk, quarters, 10s 3d; kerosene, diamond, per gallon, Is 9d; Devoe-s, Is lOd per gallon; Patna rice, £ll to £l2 per ton ; New Zealand wheat, per bushel, 3s 7d to 3s lOd; New Zealand oats, Is 9d to 2s per 40 lbs; maize, per 60 lbs, Is lOd to 2s 2d ; candles, D.R. J.’s, 7£d; tobacco, Raven’s twist, Is 7d per lb.
