TIMAEU—THIS DAT. (Before It. Bestitain, Erl-, E.M.) ALLEGED PERJURY'. Clias. Loons, of Otr.io, platelayer, was charged with committing wilful and corrupt perjury, on Aug. 12, in a certain civil case hoard at the AVaimate Court, before Mr Beotham. Mr Jameson appeared to prosecute, and Mr A. Perry appeared for the accused, and stated that as he had only been retained half an hour previously, he would have to ask for a remand. The accused was accordingly remanded until to-morrow morning. 13 REACHES OF THE 330UOUGH I! YE-I. AW 3. John Waugh was charged with having a spring cart in his possession without his name and address being painted on it, as required by the byelaws.. The accused pleaded guilty to (he charge, but stated that he bad only just purchased a business in Timaru, and had not had time to get his name painted on the cart. air Perry, who appeared for the Borough Council, stated that as this was the first case under the by-laws he would not press for a heavy penally.
The nominal fine of Is was inflicted
The accused was then charged with leaving a spring cart unattended in the Main South road.
The constable who laid the information stated that the cart and horse bad been left unattended in the road for 50 minutes.
T 1 ie accused called Alexander Spence, who stated that he had left the cart and horse standing near Jonas, Hart, and Wildio’s yards while, ho spoke to a friend, lie was only Bor 10 yards from the vehicle at the time.
Ilis Worship referred to the danger of leaving a. cart and horse unattended in a busy thoroughfare. Even supposing (he witness Spence had been only eight
yards away he could have had no control over the horse. Ho would indict a fine of 5s in this case, hut he wished it to be known that in future nominal tines would not bo inflicted.
Janies Itowoy for neglecting to have his name and address painted on his cart was fined Is.
Uix cases of infringement of the byelaws, were adjourned until Monday next, owing to Mr ITamcrsloy who had been retained by the defendants, being away at Dunedin. The Court thou adjourned.
