[P-Eit “Times” Special Wire.l Hotel Burnt. Dunedin, August 28. The Tuapcka Elat Hotel has been totally destroyed by fire. The building was insured in the National for £2OO, and the stock in the Norwich Union for £3OO. Football. The Interprovincial Football Match Cantcrbmy v. Otago was played to-day. Hamcrsley kicked off for Canterbury, and after twenty minutes fast play, Hammcrton secured a touch-dowu for Otago. No goal resulted. Shortly after an Otago man had to retire hurt. Hailway Grievances. A large meeting of railway employees last evening, appointed a deputation to Christchurch, and carried the following resolution “ This meeting strongly protests against an}’ 1 reduction, on the ground that the wages men arc not blameable for alleged extravagance, waste, and reckless expenditure of the different departments, laid to their charge by the Civil Service Commission, and in the name of common justice, it demands that the innocent shall not sutler.
