ANOTHER BLOCK VOTE.
The following circular has been sent round by the brewers : City Brewery, Christchurch. Sir, —We have the honor to forward you, according to instructions, the following resolutions, passed at a meeting of brewers hold at our office on the loth June, 1880 : “ 1. That in view of recent legislation and the imposition of a tax on beer, the time has arrived when all the brewers in Now Zealand should form themselves into an association for the protection of the trade generally ; and that at fill elections for representatives in the General Assembly no vote be given by any member of the association to any candidate who is in favor of a tax on beer or any legislation which will injuriously affect the browing interest. “ 2. That it is considered the duty of every brewer to become a member of the association ; and everyone who is not a member shall be considered hostile to the interests of the trade. .
“ 3. That it is very desirable that one or more members of the association should endeavor to obtain seats in the House of .Representatives, and that for this and all other matters having a general interest to the trade the assistance of the licensed victuallers should be obtained and reciprocated. “ 4. That all members of the association shall meet ouce in every year in one
of the principal cities (the place of meeting to be changed annually— the first meeting to be held in Christchurch) to discuss matters bearing upon the interests of the trade.
“ 5. That the annual subscription for each member or firm shall be
per hundred hogsheads or fraction of annual trade, and that a paid secretary be employed at a salary of £ “ G. That a copy of these resolutions bo forwarded to all brewers in New Zealand.”—We are, &c„ V INCEST AND Co.
