TIMARU HARMONIC SOCIETY.
The production by the above Society of Balfe’s well-known and favorite opera, “The bohemian Cirl,” was the means of attracting a very large and critical audience to the Queen’s Hall last evening. Indeed there was barely standing room, and the Society must have felt highly gratilicd with the attendance, and also with the close attention which was paid to the various items on the programme, the whole of which were rendered in a way that certainly reflected credit on the Society. The instrumental accompaniments were particularly good, and both in solo and chorus were most effective. Altogether the society are to be congratulated on the unmistakeable success which has attended this their latest attempt, and it is to be hoped that thus assured of the support and appreciation of the public, they may be induced to continue their praiseworthy efforts in the interests of music and the music loving public.
