The Kaipoi Borough Council have resolved to petition the Minister of Justice for the release of a man named Pearson, who is serving a sentence of imprisonment for indecency, in order that he may reach home in time to visit the death-bed of his wife. A Christchurch lady has been fined 20s for biting a piece out of the calf of a constable who was arresting her for drunkness. Mr J. 8. Rowley lias been appointed agent in Timaru for Davis’ Vertical-feed Sewing Machine, the proformances and advantages of which we intend to explain in a future issue. Messrs Cubitt and Co., agents for the Phoenix Brewing Co., have opened the Excelsior Bottling Stores in Sophia street, opposite the new Post Office. Mr W. Ramsay has commenced business as fishmonger, &c., in the premises near this office, lately occupied by Hurcombe and Co.
