S. C. Times Office. Saturday Evening. Large quantities of grain continue to arrive for shipment and the vessels laid on for London from the port are receiving excellent despatch. Transactions between merchants and farmers are limited, owing to the growers holding out for higher rates than have been ruling. Yesterday as much as 8s 9d per bushel was offered and declined for a first-class sample of milling wheat, delivered in town, the owner absolutely refusing to sell for less than 4s. For ordinary samples 3s fid to Bs 9d is the ruling figure, and for inferior as low as 3s has been accepted. Barley is slow of sale, and prices are simply nominal. Oats are improving, good milling samples being worth Is (id to Is Bd, and feed oats Is to Is (id. Auckland, August 13. Oats have increased in value. No wholesale lines are obtainable under 2s per bushel. Local maize is 3s to 3s 3d per bushel; Sydney maize is scarce, and worth about 3s (id, some merchants being inclined to ask 3s 9d. Canterbury potatoes, £1 per ton, bags included ; Auckland potatoes arc almost done. Prices in this market have not undergone any change, nor is alteration likely at present. Dunedin, August 13. Grain —Wheat —There is a moderate inquiry for local consumption, but stocks are low, and business limited, especially in second-rate descriptions. Prime milling, 4s Bdto 4s fid; medium, 3s 8d to 4s ; fowls’ feed, 2s 9d to 3s 3d per bushel. Oats, Is fid to Is 7d for prime milling; Is 4d to Is od per bushel for feed oats. Barley Really first-class samples arc in demand, malting 3s, and jjrimc malting at 3s 3d to 3s fid per bushel. Pat cattle show an improvement on last week’s rate. Prime beef, 27s fid per lOOlbs ; medium, 22s fid to 235. Fat sheep are also slightly better than last week. Prime mutton, 2;£d to 3d per lb. Sydney, August 13.
