THE KYEBURN MURDER
[By Telegraph.]
Dunedin, August 11. The inquest on the body of ’ Mrs Young was resumed this morning at Kyeburn. A number Jof Chinamen have been arrested. The police are conlident, from the evidence in their possession, that they have discovered that the crime can be sheeted borne to cither one or two Chinamen. The cord used for gagging was of a most peculiar character, and no trace of a similar kind could be obtained anywhere. A Chinaman arrested yesterday, in a lint about a mile from Naseby, had this peculiar cord in his possession. He had also a number of scratches and other marks on his person, some of them such as might have been inllictcd by a candlestick. His Loots also correspond with the prints in the neighborhood of the garden fence. Some of the other Chinamen have scratches and bruises, and it is asserted that tcctii marks can also be traced. Commissioner Weldon has been most untiring in Ids exertions, being ably assisted by Inspector Hickson, THIS DAY. An open verdict was returned, with a rider, recommending the Government to offer a reward, as it was hopeless to expect to convict without the assistance of the Chinese.
