[Reuter’s Agency, j Aquatics. Lu.vjju.v, August 10. Arrangements have been made for a sculling match on the Thames between Mr E. Lay cock, of Sydney, and Mr Elackman, for £IOO a-side. Two Explorers Eaten. Intelligence has been received that two members, Carter and Cadcnherd, of the Belgian expedition, now exploring in Africa, have been murdered by the natives. Why Cabul was Evacuated. In the House of Commons to-day the Marquis of Hartingtou, Secretary of State for India, replying to certain remarks which had been made regarding the evacuation of Cabul, defended the withdrawal of the British from that city. He said it was not now of any political importance that the troops should remain there, and General Stewart had fully concurred in the proposal to remove them. The Beige of Candahav. Calcutta, August 10. Intelligence has been received from Caudhar to the 6th inst. General Primrose reports that the citadel is in a com-
plete state of defence, and lie is provisioned for 25 days. Ayoub Khan, with the hulk of his army, is now encamped at Kokoran, near Candahar.
