LEVELS ROAD BOARD.

The usual monthly meeting of the above was hold to-day, all the members being present. Letters -were read from various ratepayers, applying for remission of rates. From Jas. Gould, applying for compensation for land taken for road purposes. The overseer was instructed. From T. Jefcoate applying for footbridge aver Pighunting Creek. Unsolved that the work bo done.

From T. H. Hall, calling attention to the encroachments of gorse hedges in roads alongside of land leased to Messrs Sealey. From E. Acton, I. Abram, and others, in reference to roadworks. The applications were referred to the overseer. GORSE HEDGES. Some discussion took place in reference to Mr Hall’s letter re the encroachment of gorse hedges, Mr Moody and Mr Shaw objecting to the Board being made a convenient use of in compelling tenants whose leases were about to expire to trim their hedges and thereby benefit the landowners. It was finally resolved that action should be taken against defaulting hedge growers generally, and, on the motion of .Ur Moody, it was carried—“ That notice bo inserted in the newspaper that the Act will be put in force as to keeping gorse fences trimmed, and the roadsides kept free from gorse.” ROAD 3VORKS. It was decided to metal the Main South Hoad from Saltwater Creek to Dynes, and to shingle the Cave Hoad from the Point Hoad to Sutherlands. Mr Orbell had an interview with the Board re certain roads. TENDERS. The following tenders were accepted —Sterudale Yalley Hoad : J, Gibson, £357 10s ; Landsborougbs’ road : J. Gibson, £2Ol 5s ; College Hoad : Hood and Cullick, £9B 13s 4d ; Levels Yalley Hoad : C. Flynn, £52 10s. accounts, &c. Accounts amounting to £790 were passed for payment. It was resolved that a special rate of 8d in the £ bo struck at Wai-iti, and that a general rate of 6d in the £ be struck. The Board then adjourned.
