S. C. Times Cilice. Saturday Evening,
The mills continue biiskly at work and several moderate transaction sin good milling wheat and oats have been made during the week. The news from abroad, especially the prices quoted for oats in the Australian markets has imported a tone of decided firmness to the local market, and sellers are not at all anxious to quit except at a fair advance on late quotations. It has been ascertained that although large shipments direct and via Lyttelton and Dunedin have been made from South Canterbury a very large proportion of the past seasons crop remains in growers hands. A steady supply of every kind of grain may therefore be expected for some months to come, and this will probably prevent prices rising to any great extent. Best milling wheat is worth from lis 2d to As Gd per bushel; inferior samples 2s Gd to ids; barley is nominal at 2s 3d to 2s 9d; oats, milling samples Is Id to Is Gd; feed Is to Is 3d.
