Great dissatisfaction prevails amongst the unemployed in Hie Waimatc district. A short lime since the Government were petitioned to commence the construction of the Waimatc Gorge line, with a view to the relief of the billetless. 11 is Worship the Mayor of W,annate, yesterday received a reply, stating that the Government could not sec their way at present to proceed with the work in <iucstion.
A petition, bearing a large number of signatures, was forwarded from Temuka, yesterday, through Mr Wakefield, to the Minister of Justice, praying for the appointment of Mr Julius Mendelson as a Justice of the Peace.
The District Courts Bill gives power to Judges of the District Courts to grant probates of wills and letters of administration within their own district during the absence of the Supremo Court Judge. Every District Court will have the same power and authority to enforce orders under “The Debtors and Creditors Act, 1870,” and amending Acts, as the Suju’eme Court.
