REMARKABLE INSTANCES OF LONGEVITY.
At a recent religious ceremonial at the Hof burg, in Vienna, twelve old men were presented to tlic Emperor of Austria whose collective ages amounted to 1082 years giving an average of 90 3 r cars and two months each. One of them was 102 years old. On the same occasion twelve old women were presented to the Empress, one of whom was 92 years of age, six were 89, and live 88 years, giving - a total of lOGti years. On the same day, at the Cathedral of St. Stephen, twelve old men were presented to the Cardinal Archbishop, whose collective ages amounted to 1017 years. The collective ages of the whole three groups (thirty-six persons) amounted to ;51G5 years, giving an average for each of 87 years and eleven months. During one fortnight there have been recorded in the obituary of “The Times” the deaths of twenty-live ladies at ages ranging from 85 to 99 years, their united ages amounting to 2205 years, giving an average of 88 3’oars and over two months each. Of the opposite sex there were twenty-one whose ages ranged from 85 to 98 years, their united ages amounting to 184 G years, giving an average of 87 years and nearly 11 months to each.
