Intelligence has been received from Afghanistan that Ayoyh Khan, Governor of Herat, who left that city recently with a strong force for the purpose of attacking Camlabar, has arrived at Fcrrah, and resumed his march towards Candaliar. The Harvest in Surope. London, July 14. Accounts of the bop crop are less favorable. The crops have been partially damaged by excessive rains. The parly specially selected to visit and report on the Mohaka 'quartz reefs returned to-day, and brought hack a quarter of a ton of stone, which was lodged in the Bank of New Zealand fur transmission to Auckland for crushing’ and testing. The party reports that the quartz reefs are of an auriferous character, hut the gold is extremely line. Dncky Pataa. A lire was discovered last night in Yvhitehead’s stables, hut it was extinguished before doing much damage. The stables were insured in the Union Company for JMOO. Drowned. Lamest Gilchrist, a child of nineteen months, was accidentally drowned at Otaki yesterday. Fire and Zioss of Dife. Stevenson’s Hotel at Ilcuwiek Town, 9 miles from Blenheim was destroyed by lire last night. One man, at present unknown, was burnt to death. A Captain Drowned. Christchurch, July IG. Capt. J. Paterson, of the ban pic Hudson, fell oil: the wharf at Lyttelton last night and was drowned. Discovery of Antimony. D GNEDIN', Jllty 16. A splendid antimony lode has been discovered at the Head of Lake, Wakatipu. joining Hush at Hiverton. Invercargill, July 10. There Is some excitement at lliverton through a rush to the creeks not 100 yards from the township. About a dozen arc at work. A few specks arc found in every dish, hut not enough to pay. The false bottom has been pierced and gold is still found. The parties intend testing the true bottom.

This Day. Dr Campbell, the Ecv. J. D. Ferguson, Messrs Cooke and Cnnniughnin, members of the Christchurch Anglers’ Society, succeeded in netting four beautiful fish of the salmon tribe in the river Cam on Wednesday night. The Cam is a stream running from Eangrora into the north branch of the Wairnakariri at Kaiapoi. The largest weighs 7Hbs. The fish are believed to be trout or Californian salmon. Over dOOO visited the Industrial Exhibition ycyterday and to-day. The children of various schools are visiting the building, which is now so full that the committee has been obliged to close the gates until 4 o’clock. The Exhibition will probably be opened for a portion of next week.
