The budget speech on June 16 stated that the deficiency of £44.0,000 was reducible iby unexpended balances to £2110,000. Government has been censured for discourtesy to South Australia re border duties. A Bill has been passed to enable the Sydney Municipal Council to borrow £75,000 to complete their town hall. The war steamer Raleigh, which arrived on June 17, reports searching Madeira Islands for the survivors of the Knowslcy Hall. They found a hut and two boats and a flagstaff, but no signs of life. The hut is supposed to belong to some fishermen. The steamer Wanganui stranded at Grafton heads, and was being towed when she sank head foremost, about a mile from the beach. Win. Clarke has sailed for New Zealand in the Riugarooma, to open petroleum wells at Poverty Bay. QUEENSLAND. Five French escaped communists arrived from New Caledonia, whence they escaped on May 7. The Magistrate advised their arrest as vagrants pending the orders of the Government. It is stated that Bishop Hale shortly resigns the Sec of Brisbane,
