DRUNKENNESS. An inebrate was fined 10s, with the usual alternative.

VAGRANCY AND ILLEGALLY OX PREMISES

James Murphy, against whom there were no fewer than nine previous convictions, was charged as above. Detective Kirb}'' said accused had been loafing about town for the last two days, and was a great nuisance to the hotel keepers. He arrested him at one o’clock this morning, in the old church, iu Church street, having watched his movements for some time before.

The accused pleaded that he had only been out of gaol 21 hours, and admitted that he had taken a glass too much. He was not given a chance to look for employment, being tracked about by the police wherever he went. Ho had intended last night to take the pledge, and had fallen asleep in the churchyard on his way. The accused was sentenced to one month’s imprisonment, with hard labor. APPLICATION TOR LEAVE TO APPEAL. A civil case was heard at the last sitting of the Court—J. B. Lindsay v. J. Connor, claim £3 10s for conversion and detention of 12 bags of potatoes and £lO damages. Judgment was given for the plaintiff for £2 Ids and costs of Court.

Air Tosswill now applied for leave to appeal. Mr Reid appeared to oppose the application, After some argument, His Worship characterised the case as a paltry one, and remarked that he did not feel justified in granting the application, which was therefore refused.
