IMPORTANT GOLD DISCOVERY.

[By Tioi.KiiiiAim:.]

lII 'K I TJ KA, June 2d. A discovery of gold, which may prove nl great A’aluc to the Coast, lias been made on the ranges between the Paringa and the [line river, about twenty miles soulh of Paringa river and halt way between the Paringa and iiaast rivers. The new Paringa and liaast road, now

being- made, will mn within two miles of the locality in which gold has been found, and the formed road will shortly be made past this place. It appears that two men, known us Bob the Baker and Kennaird, have been spending seme weeks in the locality prospecting without tools, and obtaining supplies of fond with dilliculty. As the result of about six weeks’ perseverance under the most adverse circumstances they obtained fifty ounces of gold of a very heavy character. They tried to,get water on the range where then were at work, but were unable to dr so, and in consequence devoted themselves to scareh for the metal in tin crevices of the rocks, with the result above stated. The gold is a magnifi cent sample, and was shown to Mi Meagher, the chief surveyor, on his recent visit .south, and from which he returned a few days since. As soon as the road is through, there is very little doubt that a large mining population will he settled in this rich, nog looted, and almost unknown and unexplored country. Even now, in spite ol the obstacles to success mentioned above, it is clear that (here arc soim miners steadily at work in (he southern part of Westland, not one of whom need fear making three or four ounces per week, even with the want of facilities under which they now labor.
