Mooro deceased. The case was dismissed.

At a meeting of brewers to-day, it was decided to agitate for a reduction of the beer tax to 3d per gallon.
The Coming: ESan for I’/aitaM. 0 amaru, June 14. Mr George Jones’ meeting on Saturday night was one of the largest ever held in Oamam. The hall was crowded to excess, and many were unable to gain admittance. The candidate spoke for an hour and three-quarters. He was specially severe on native lands transactions. A vote of confidence was carried unanimously amidst cheers. His election is considered certain. Bndod in Smoko. Dunedin, June 14 The Volunteer review enquiry shows that the Ashburton affair was grossly exaggerated. One Volunteer has been suspended. Southland Criminal Sessions. Invercargill, June 14. The Supreme Court was opened today. Robert Arnold, for stabbing, received 18 months’ hard labor. Thomas Tibbetts and F. Pressnitt, for larceny, two years and four months respectively. 2%ablrit Show. The Dipton babbit Fur Show is a great success. There are exhibitors from all parts of Southland. Joseph Hatch, a well-known seal fur trader, and Graham C. boss are judges. Altogether there are about three hundred exhibits dressed in various styles, and representing some lino varieties. The prize-takers arc as follows :—James Tracey, of Dipton, first ; John Lee, of benmoro, second ; Master bobertson, of bnrwood, third; Highly commended —A. Caithness, of Edemhdc ; anil Win. Orr. of Dipton. best assorted bundle of various colors—Alfred Haywood, Dipton. The whole of the exhibits are to be forwarded to the Melbourne Exibitinn, in which space lias been secured by W. Daniel, of Dipton, on behalf of the babhiter’s Association.
