ASHIiUETON MEETING. fßv Telegraph.] [froh our own correspondent.] Ashburton, May 29. The weather is splendid and there is a numerous attendance of local and district residents on the course. A formidable water-jump of sixteen feet, with a post and rail fence of 3ft. Sin. tested the qualities of the steeplechasers. The cours?, which is 1$ miles in circumference, contains ten jumps, and the events arc conseboth exciting and picturesque, occasional shower-baths heightening the interest. The following are the results:— Ashburton Handicap Steeplechase, of 40 sovs, added to a sweepstakes of 2 sovs each for acceptors ; over about three miles of fair hunting country. Ldnn’s Fakir, lOst 71bs ... 1 Husband’s Haven, list ... 2 Fakir made all the running, and won easily. WANGANUI STEEPLECHASE. Wanganui. May 29.
