MR REEVES AT GREYMOUTH
Mr Reeves, M.H.R., addressed a crowded meeting of his constituents at Greymoutli last evening. He referred to his action in Parliament during the last session, and stated that although he would not promise to support the present Ministry, he would not offer any factious opposition to them. If the Ministry wouid bring forward liberal measures, he would so far support them, as ho considered the Opposition was thoroughly disorganised. A unanimous vote of thanks and confidence in Mr Reeves was passed. After Mr Reeves had returned thanks, the County Chairman (Mr A. R. Guinness) made a vigorous and bitter speech on the Public Works Department, as administered in the Grey district, which was received with great applause. He concluded by moving the following resolution, which was carried unanimously ;—“That taking into consideration the importance of the labor and railway works authorised by Parliament to be constructed in this district, and that a large : amount of public money was promised by the Government to be expended in constructing the same, this meeting is of opinion that public works are being parried out in a very unsatisfactory manner, and would therefore respectfully request the Minister of Public Works forthwith to appoint an engineer of experience to reside at Greymouth and take charge of, and superinthc works referred to.”
