The opening meeting of the above Club, took place at Waimate, yesterday, and resulted in a a good day’s sport for the few who attended. The ground selected was a portion of the estate of the president, Mr Studholme, and it was found to bo well stocked with game and in other respects admirably adapted for coursing. The first dogs were put into the slips shortly after II o’clock, hut the opening course was a failure owing to the dogs selecting different hares. In the next course Shamrock killed, and in that which followed Mr Mcikle’s Empress beat Mr Bull’s dog, Hector, easily. Guy Fawkes, another from Mr Bull’s kennel, was equally unfortunate with Tui. Four undecided courses were run on the first ties. The All-Age Stakes brought throe couple to the front, but the sport, though limited to a few dogs, proved most exciting. Mr J. Meiklc’s Empress beat Mr J. Bull’s r and w d Hector. Mr B. Thomson’s r d Liberator beat Mr A. Turnbull’s Border Lad. Messrs Eeid Bros.’ f and w d Tois Tois beat Mr D. McLean’s blk and w d Argyle. Messrs Eeid Bros. Tui beat Mr J. Bull’s Guy Fawkes. Mr Sherwin’s Maritana beat Mr A. Turnbull’s Snipe. eirst ties. Shamrock heat Happy-go-Lucky. Empress beat Tui.
