The Waimakariri, having made serious encroachments on part of the works erected to protect Christchurch, the Board this morning resolved to erect a new embankment, at a cost of £IOOO. Another Departed Sportsman. Duxedin, May 25. Robert McDonald, a printer and a resident of the Glen, went out rabbit shooting on Monday morning and has not since been heard of. It is feared he has been killed by a gun accident. The Cargo of the Calypso. Telegrams from London state, that the cargo of the Calypso will be all saved, but in a damaged state, with a loss of 60 per cent, on the outside. The vessel has been towed up the river, and beached at Gravesend. Killed by a Train. The body of the man run over yesterday has been identified as that of Wm. Jameson, a laborer, unmarried. He was going out to his work at Anderson’s Bay, when the train overtook him._ Robert Paterson has been appointed a member of the Harbor Board vice Houghton, Dost and Found. The missing man McDonald turned up last night in an inebriated state. He had lost his way in the Silver Peaks.
