A SAD PILGRIMAGE.
The Empress Eugene (says the “Capo Times,”) on her journey to Zululand, was accompanied only by one member of her household, the Marquis do Bassano, son of the Due do Bassano, and Sir Evelyn Wood. A few ladies —the widows of officers slain in the war—also took part in the mournful journey. They travelled by land to the valley of Ityotjmzi, the scene of the sad disaster. About a fortnight was needed for this part of thr journey, which was so arranged that her Majesty would reach the donga where the Prince fell on the ill-fated Ist of June, and at the very hour of the struggle and death. On June 3rd the Empress starts on her homeward route, and a few hours will be spent at Helena, Her Majesty will return to Chislehurst on July 26th. The two English servants of the late Prince Imperial were in attendance on the Empress during the whole of the journey to Zululand and back.
