It is stated that the Chief Secretary for Ireland, the Right Hon W. E. Forster recommends the adoption of a policy of coercion towards Ireland, with a view to settle the difficulties which beset the government of that country. Cricket. May 14. The cricket match between the Australian team and Eighteen Gentlemen of Hampshire was resumed and concluded to-day. The Englishmen scored 116 in their first innings, and 113 in theirsccond innings. The Australians thus won the match in one innings with 21 runs to spare. A Denial. May 16. The statement made that the Chief Secretary for Ireland recommends, a policy of coercion towards Ireland is denied. The Orient steamship Liguria sailed from Plymouth to-day.
