Christchurch, This Day. Wheat is without alteration in price. Present quotations are 3s 6d. A few sales have been made but nearly all the grain brought in is being shipped on grower’s account. Oats : Between 20,000 to 30,000 bushels Canadian has been purchased at Is 6d f.o.b. One lot of 4000 bushels Tartarian was sold at Ashburton for Is lid. For barley .there is no sale whatever. More of this grain has been grown this year than Was i estimated by anyone. Linseed and tares are very scarce and much enquired for. The former is quoted at £25 and £2B per ton ; the latter, for good samples, 7s per bushel of GOlbs. Carrots are quoted at 30s per ton ; potatoes, £2 ss, f.o.b. Several sales have been made during the last five days for shipment coastwise and for Sydney. More potatoes were grown this season than was expected. Grass seed —Perennial rye, machine dressed, 3s to 3s fid per bushel. Cocksfoot, dressed, 3d to 3id. Auckland, May 14.
A general improvement in business is reported for the week. and numerous sales of all descriptions of merchandise have been effected. Brcadstuffs are to hand heavily, and the result is local millers have reduced their prices of flour 20s per ton. Household' is worth ;El2 ; superfine, £l3 ; Southern from £ll 10s to £l3 ; Adelaide, sold to arrive at £ll. Several transactions at Is lid to 2s have taken place in oats. Oatmeal' £ll 10s to £l2 ; Canterbury potatoes, £3 15s to £4 ; local £3 ; 1500 cases of Hobartown jams arrived to an overstocked market, and are offering at os fid, stone jars, Gs. Flax is very scarce, buyers at £2llos to £22 ; English cheese, sound, offered at 64d Canterbury, 6d to Old; cornsacksfrom Sydney, 9s ; salt butter, 9£d to lid, Dunedin, May 14. , Mr Bradshaw reports Bank of New Zealand shares, £1915s to £2O; National Bank, 58s to 60s; Colonial Bank, 44s 6d to 45s ; New Zealand Insurance, 40s; National Insurance, 21s fid, cum div ; Standard Insurance, 9s fid to 10s; Union Insurance, 16s fid; Colonial Insurance, 7s 6d, cum div ! Otago and Southland Investment, 30s; New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency, 90s; National Mortgage and Agency, 24s ; Scottish and New Zealand Investment, 21s; Colonial Investment, 21s ; Mosgiel Woollen Factory, 60s, cum div.
