[Pee “Times” Special Wiee.] A Naval Spree. Wellington, May 15. The officers of the Naval Brigade entertained the members last evening. 200 were present. Masterton Railway. The railway lino to Masterton is expected to be opened in August. The line is now completed to within three miles of Carterton, to which place the line will be finished in July. It is not, however, intended to open the lino to Carterton till the Masterton line is opened. Native .affairs. Haweba, May 15. Tbe natives are again passing through here to attend the usual monthly Parahika meeting on the 17th. The roads and surveys are progressing without opposition. Otago Law Society. Dunedin, May 15. The Council of the Law Society have passed resolutions of condolence with the late Mr Macasscy’s family ; also expressing regret that the Government have called on Mr Smith, district land registrar, to retire upon superannuation allowance, and to ask the Government to rc-consider the matter and allow Smith to resume the duties which he now fills with such general satisfaction. Fortunate Witnesses. A reward of £3OO is to be distributed among the witnesses who secured Cummock’s conviction.
