TIMARU—THIS DAY. (Before E. Beetham Esq., E.M.) LARCENY OF MUTTON. J ames dial croft was charged with the larceny of two sheep carcases, the property of Mr Wigley, station-holder of Raincliff, near Timaru. The short facts of the case were that the accused, who is also a resident of Raincliff, was passing Mr Wigley’s place recently, when he caught sight of the carcases of two sheep, which had just been killed for the use of the station, hanging up in an out-house. Entering the building he cut down the sheep, and conveyed them to his house, when he cut them up and salted them for his own use. Evidence having been given as to the arrest of the accused, against whom there was no previous conviction, he was sentenced to two months’ imprisonment with hard labor.
