THE VICTORIAN UNEMPLOYED.
The following hymn has been composed for the unemployed, who have lately been parading the streets of Melbourne:— “ Oh, happy land I Oh, happy land ! We’re starving the week through, We’re by the train, from Castlemaine, And we’ve got no work to do. We’ve lost our J. B. Patterson, . We've lost our Berry too ; ■' We only ask three pounds a week, And not too much to do I ” Then let us now parade the town And plague the powers that bo, : Although there is no other show Stonebreaking we can!t see. Tho’ Jimmy Service offers work, I It is not what we’ll take, It’s offered by the piece, ray lads, And that’s a big mistake. ; We’re by the train, from Castlemaine, We’re on for Government screw, j Three pounds a week, is all we seek,! And we won’t ask work to do. !
